Q: Where can I find a transmission for an 1988 jeep wrangler?
I’m looking for an automatic jeep transmission for a 1988 jeep wrangler. Can anyone tell me a website where I can find one?
A: Wrecking yard in your area or have your old one rebuilt.
Q: 92 Jeep Wrangler looses gas quickly and loud exaust noise?
My 92 Jeep Wrangler losses gas quickly after filling it up. There doesn’t seem to have any visible gas leeks, seldom there are times a strong odor of gas while driving in the city or on the freeway. The jeep now has a loud Rev with the occasionally load crackling sound in idle and when the gas peddle has been pressed. When driven on the road there is a loss of power/RPM. I’ve checked the oil for possible water, but the dipstick came back nominal. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
A: my jeep was losing gas and i found out that the rubber seal around the top of the gas tank was rotted away, so after replaceing it, (twice) i found out that there was a recall on that problem. mine was spilling gas out the top of it, i couldnt see it until i dropped the gas tank to change the fuel pump.
Q: How much is this gonna cost me for my Jeep Wrangler?
I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and I really want to put a better sound system in it. So I want a new stereo and two subs in my trunk. Am I gonna need anything else to go along with it? Plus, how much is this all gonna cost me? I really need to know, thanks. JEEP PRIDE!
A: You will need about $50 in extra parts to get started (faceplate adapter, wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter, wire crimps).
As far as the rest goes, it’s all about how much the equipment is going to cost you.
I got a $100 radio, $60 speakers so my total was well under $300 without adding subs.
Adding subs you will need an amp(s) – $100 – $300. Sub box ($30 – $100 per box) and you will want to get a face that is designed to control your subs ($60 – $700)….so you can see how wide your price range will be.
Do the install yourself. Install is VERY easy on Jeeps since you can just rip the carpet out and run the wires. Also doing the face plate install is simple and there are tons of people who have posted directions on the internets. If you pay to have the install done you can tack on an extra $150
Q: How to put coil springs on a 1991 Jeep Wrangler?
I was wondering if there was a kit to let me take the leaf springs out of my 1991 Jeep Wrangler and put coil spring in it instead? If so where would I find one at?
A: Their are 2 kits. One by FABTECH & the other is by Superlift/Black Diamond. These are NOT a DIY kit if you are not handy with a welder
The Fabtech is a bit much for the stock Dana 30/35 axles. Both kits are fat bank too. But hey, If you’ve got the capital…go for it!
You want to modify the YJ I’d check out the Rocky Road website.
Q: What is the Safety Rating for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?
I am looking to buy a 2007, 4 door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I have a 2 year old, so I would like to find out the Child Safety Rating on this vehicle. I would also like to know how many car seats it can safely hold.
A: If you’re concerned about safety ratings, a Wrangler is one of the sturdiest vehicles on the road (unlike other abortions with the Jeep logo on them). But if that’s what you’re looking for, then get a minivan instead.
It would be a cruying shame to get a Wrangler and not use it for its intended purpose, which is to go off-roading. Not driving on dirt roads or rolling through a 6-inch deep, Hummer-sized puddle, I’m taling about SERIOUS four wheeling. Wranglers are made to do more than back over your flowerbed, unlike everything else on the market.
Q: Suspension problem on a 2000 jeep wrangler causing cupped tires?
I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler that needs some suspension work done. Are struts the same as shocks? I have 4 cupped tires and need to figure out what’s wrong with it before I buy new tires. Could it just be the shocks causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A: Struts are similar but not the same as shocks, and bad shocks can cause cupping, but so can out of balance tires. You should fix it before you replace the tires. If they are the factory shocks on a 2000, they probably need replacing after 10 years. The tire shop will also do an inspection before they install new tires, and will tell you about anything else that’s wrong.
Q: How to install a lightbar to a jeep wrangler?
I have purchased a used lightbar and lights to install on my jeep wrangler. The lightbar and lights are used, so it is preassembled and wired. I need to know how to properly wire this on my jeep. This is the lightbar that will install to the window. That part seems farily simple, just bold to window brackets. The wiring is not my cup of tea. I have purchused 2 rocker switches for this also. Therefore, i have 2 switches, the lights, and lightbar with the wiring ran in the lightbar (about 6 feet coming out the end). what else do i need for this wiring process, and what exactly do i need to do for wiring this up? thank you very much. Also, this is a 1997 TJ. Thanks again
When browsing for installation info, i read about relays, will i need one of these? or do i just need to run the feed wire to the switch, and then run switch to the fuse box? thanks again for all your help!
A: tazman is on the right track.
Connect the feed wires to the light assembly to the top side of the switches (these wires will be hot when the switch is in the “on” position), & the ground wires to a spot on the interior body where they’ll be out of the way, & hidden from view.
Use a test light, & find 2 blank spots on the fuse panel that are hot when the key is in the “on” position (one for each switch). Run wires from the bottom side of the switches to the fuse panel via an inline fuse.
Based on your description, that should do it.
Hope this helped you & good luck!!
Q: How to get my jeep wrangler ready for winter?
I have a 1989 jeep wrangler 4.0L, manual, and wanted to know how do I check my transmition fluid?, transfer case fluid? What else can I do to get my jeep ready for winter? thanks so much,
A: 1989 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0L?.. You mean 1998, right?
There should be a filler and drain plug on the transmission. Remove the fill plug (the higher of the two) and see if you finger touches any fluid. If not, then add more. Transfer case is the same way, but uses automatic transmission fluid (on most models). Be sure to use the right type for your year of Wrangler.
It is highly advised to use a 0W-20/30/40 type of oil to help on cold starts if you cannot plug the Jeep in, that’s if you have a block heater for it. Make sure the coolant is at the proper level and type plus get a venting radiator cap: just to be safe.
Q: what is the best year for the jeep wrangler?
I’m looking to get a jeep wrangler for recreational use, like driving in the snow and maybe towing a small trailer(under 1500 lbs). I already have a commuter car, so i just need a jeep for bad weather. Is there any years or specific models to avoid? Iwill most likely get a TJ, but not brand new maybe 97-02. thanks guys.
A: The jeep TJ’s are pretty good all years but improvements were made so the newer the better preferably 2000 and up. In 2000 they did change to the NV3500 manual trans(stronger albeit noisy improvement) and went with a distributorless ignition system plus changed to anew design softop which was quieter and better insulated.. A heavy duty rear end was available (dana 44) in all years and is easily identified by an angular as opposed to round rear end cover and a threaded fill plug in cover rather than a rubber plug. I also would spend the extra money for a 6 cylinder rather than the 4 as the mileage is not that much different and the 6 is pretty much a great , long lasting ,near bulletproof motor with a well suited torque curve.
Q: When when I go to start my Jeep Wrangler I need to pump the gas a few times before it will turn over.?
I have a 1988 Jeep Wrangler and in the morning before I start the jeep I need to pump the gas a few times before it will turn over. Any idea why and what I would need to replace?
A: Either your carb needs rebuilt, Or you need a fuel filter.
Q: Does a 1998 Jeep Wrangler with a 4 cylinder have enough power?
I’m a high schooler and found a decently priced Jeep Wrangler but it has a 4 cyl engine. I live in Missouri so there are some hills around but they aren’t too bad. I don’t use the interstate too much either because everything is pretty close to me. Just wanting to know if a four cylinder would be okay or if I should keep looking for a 6.
A: I would hold out for the 6 cyl. I think you will be happier in the long run. Not only will it have more power, it is a better motor and will last way longer then the motors in the 4 cyl engines.
Q: Where can I find the color coded wiring diagram for the 1995 Jeep Wrangler stereo system. No tips on harnesses
I am installing an aftermarket stereo into my 1995 Jeep Wrangler, and I can’t find the color coded wiring diagram of what color does what anywhere!! Please help!
A: www.crutchfield.com
Q: How much would it cost to put in a new air conditioning in an old jeep wrangler?
It is an old jeep wrangler; it does not have air conditioning, and it stick shift. My Uncle is willing to give it to me for free so I’m making my parents get me an air conditioning system (I live in houston I can’t live without one). How much would a new air conditioning system cost? And how much would it cost for someone to install it? (Don’t try to tell me how to install it, I’m not going to)
A: I would say parts and labor about three grand.
Q: Is a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4×4 SE a good reliable car and how much would a new paint job cost?
I am considering on purchasing a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4×4 SE. My question is is this a reliable first car and how much would a new paint job cost? I do not like the forest green color and want to paint it either red or burgendy. So how much would a cheap paint job cost. I am not looking for a show car paint job just a desent one.
A: new paint job should cost around 4000 dollars, and yes its a reliable jeep
Q: Why my 1990 Jeep Wrangler will not start?
I have a 1990 Jeep Wrangler and the fuel pump went out in it. We have fixed that problem and then discovered a new one, and that’s that there is no electricity going to the pump anymore. I don’t know if there are any breaks in the wire but we have tried many different things and put a lot of time into it. is there something that needs to be reset or anything like that? We are all stumped and need help.
A: Some newer autos, maybe all, are equipped with a fuel pump shutoff switch that senses an accident. There should be a reset button, But I have no idea where it would be on your Jeep.
