A: I’ve owned them both (2003 Chrysler and 2005 Honda) and hands down, pick an Odyssey over any Chrysler, Ford or GM product. Go to Car and Driver and check their website. It wasn’t voted the best minivan for no reason at all.
The only close competition to the Odyssey is the Toyota or the newest Hyundai Entourage. Yeah, don’t laugh, Hyundai.
The Odyssey rides better, sounds better, gets better mileage, has WAY better reliability and retains its value so much better it isn’t funny. I have three young children and a dog and the Honda just accommodates us all better.

Q: Steering wheel vibrates on brand new 09′ Honda Odyssey?
Bought a brand new (just 12 Miles on ODO) 09 Honda Odyssey. Bringing it home from the dealer I noticed that the steering wheel vibrated when I was pressing the brakes. Search engines suggested warped rotors. My dealer said they would take care of the problem. When I went to the dealer the service manager told me it’s common when cars remain in the lot for too long this problem arises. Made sense since this car was on the lot from Oct. 08. The problem is that I asked if they were intending to resurface the rotors or replace them. The service manager paused when telling me that they resurface them. Now since the car is new of the lot shouldn’t the dealer be obliged to replace them. Especially if this item will clearly come out my pocket in the future as “wear and tear”. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
A: I used to work for Ford, and if that dealer wants to turn them instead of replace them, and you think they should be new, I would tell them to put new ones. That car had 12 miles on it and has a problem like that…
This makes me mad to hear things like this, and if you want them to jump tell them you will get the BAR involved and they will mostlikely jump.

Q: dealer installed viper alarm on Honda Odyssey won’t stop alarming…how do you stop it?
I have a viper alarm on the key fob of my new Honda Odyssey. I read the entire booklet, but maybe I misunderstood how to turn the d*** thing off? You press the lock unlock for one second, but then the d***blue light starts flashing again, and you guessed it…the alarm goes off AGAIN I am totally baffled by this and I am ready to rip it out with my bare hands. Does anyone have a similar system and has advice how to turn it off properly? Thanks!

I just need a quick fix for now, I am having trouble with my transportation, and appointments take time to schedule, and out of your day, and all that.
A: Are you holding that button down? If so, you’re probably triggering the alert system, the part you use just in case you’ve lost your car or need to ward off possible stalkers and such.
You shouldn’t have to hold the lock/unlock button on your keyfob. Just press and release.

A: Honda and Toyota usually come out with new models in July or August. If the car is completely redesigned sometimes they will come out earlier. They will not tell anyone of early release dates because it would make it hard for the dealer to sell the old body style. If there is a glut of old models in dealer inventory sometimes they will hold back the release date.

A: You have good instinct for choosing between these two makes. Honda is known as very reliable, but anyone who knows will tell you Suzuki is just as good, if not better in terms of reliability. I will give you the weak point I noticed as a Suzuki owner. The dealers do not like honoring the ‘best warranty in America’. They eventually will, but everything is a fight. From whatI hear Honda is alot better for vehicle service.

A: More horsepower and theoretically better mpg with the cylinder shutdown. I would assume there have been big steps forward in the comfort side. However, new vehicles are a TERRIBLE investment – guaranteed 30-50% loss in the first 2-3 years depending on the model though Hondas hold their value better than anything out there. Keep driving your ‘00 if it is running good. I have three hondas: 235k, 230k and 278k miles.

She refuses to fax the quote, and wants to use the dealer no matter what. We have not turned into insurance yet, and feel like we’re about to get screwed. Probably a few times over. Any ideas?
